Elsewhere Abode was born from my own search for warm, tactile layers that could belong outdoors without feeling like traditional camping gear.
I wanted something I could take into a tent, van or cabin that still felt beautiful, grounding and personal - not synthetic, bulky or purely practical. But when I searched for camping blankets, I kept finding the same thing: sleeping bags, technical fabrics and gear designed for survival rather than atmosphere.
That search led me deeper into natural fibres, warmth, durability and the quiet performance of alpaca and llama wool. I became drawn to materials that could hold heat, breathe well, soften a space and stand up to regular use.
I was looking for pieces that could move between home and elsewhere with ease.
As a child, home was transient. It was not always a structure or a fixed place, but something I found in the warmth of people, the softness of community, and the ability to carry a sense of safety with me across seasons, faces and places.
To me, a blanket has never been just a blanket.
A well-loved blanket carries nostalgia. It holds deep conversations, ecstatic celebrations, difficult seasons, and the quiet moments of personal becoming. It becomes part of your story. It collects memory. It softens and settles over time.
There is something powerful about the way a textile can create comfort. The touch of a blanket can soothe the nervous system, it can steady and ground us in moments that feel exciting, new or overwhelming. It can change the atmosphere of a space, offering a quiet reminder of the people, places and memories that have made a home in us.
Elsewhere Abode became a way to bring together what I could not find: natural comforts for open-air living, chosen for warmth, texture, personal comfort and use.
The comfort you carry with you.
We source our blankets with care, favouring slow-made textiles, fair trade suppliers and pieces that honour the hands, materials and communities behind them. Each piece is chosen not only for how it feels and functions, but for the craft, care and people woven into it.
As Elsewhere Abode grows, we hope to extend this idea of carried comfort beyond our customers, working with charities and community organisations that bring warmth, dignity and support to people who need it most.
